Psychotherapy and counselling

Psychotherapy and counselling sessions are confidential. Working together, we can find ways forward, recognising patterns that might have developed that are not helpful.  This is a process that leads to relief and recovery.

Psychotherapy can be helpful in many ways. Whether you are seeking support in a reflective way to develop your potential, or needing to solve or resolve a particular issue or problem, we can work together to achieve your personal aims.

Often issues may change in a way that leads to relief in just a few psychotherapy sessions, in-depth personal development and the resolution of complex issues may take longer and require patience and determination..

I think it would be realistic to suggest that usually at least six meetings would  reveal how psychotherapy will be able to help your particular situation and whether further steps may be required.

Psychotherapy

Therapy is about working together.  I do not simply tell you what to do or how to change. I can offer advice of course, but this will arise from our discussion and exploration.  We might consider what has happened in the past, how difficulties are manifesting in the present and what kind of future you would prefer to be living. We would take this at a pace that respects your own preferences and needs in a safe and confidential environment.

In order for psychotherapy to be most helpful, my view is that working with a therapist with a wide variety of skills and a varied clinical background is most likely to lead to the desired outcome.

Types of therapy

I am trained in several therapeutic approaches. Gestalt Psychotherapy is a core model for me. I also have advanced level training in EMDR, which is a treatment for trauma and PTSD recommended in the NICE guidelines. I have worked for a long time in a family therapy team.  I have undertaken training in CBT and use this when it can complement our work and help with specific issues.  I integrate all these ways of working and tailor the approach in collaboration and discussion with you.

Please do contact me to talk with me about my training and how my experience can be helpful to you.
